Checked 20 October 2026. Haryana EV road tax exemption can change a dealer quotation substantially, but a tax waiver does not make every part of registration free. This guide helps you read the quotation and distinguish tax relief from a separate purchase-incentive claim.
What the official 2026 announcement says
The Haryana Cabinet’s 28 July announcement provides full motor vehicle tax exemption for new pure electric two-, three- and four-wheelers up to ₹30 lakh ex-showroom, purchased and registered in Haryana. Above ₹30 lakh, it provides 50% exemption. Its wording concerns pure battery vehicles; do not extend it automatically to a hybrid.
A 25 August government implementation update identifies 21 August 2026 as the operational date and says prescribed registration-related charges remain payable. It also excludes vehicles purchased outside Haryana from this scheme. Confirm the applicable rules for your exact transaction with the registering authority.
Read the quotation line by line
Ask for an itemised quote identifying the exact vehicle variant and its ex-showroom price. Then look for separate entries for motor vehicle tax, registration-related charges, insurance, accessories and other services. If everything appears under one “RTO” amount, ask the dealer to split it before you compare offers. A combined figure makes it difficult to see whether a tax concession has actually been applied.
Keep the quote dated and tied to the variant you will receive. If the dealer changes the trim, battery or invoice, request a revised breakdown. Compare the revised total with the original rather than relying on a verbal promise that the saving will be adjusted later. This is a practical recordkeeping step, not confirmation of any individual buyer’s eligibility.
Tax exemption and purchase subsidy are different
A lower tax line at registration and a purchase-incentive application answer different questions. Do not subtract both from your budget unless the relevant authority has confirmed each benefit separately. Our Haryana EV policy eligibility and official PDF guide explains the original policy and why a published incentive amount does not prove that a claim window or quota is available today.
Compare two offers using the same ownership basis
Ask whether the quoted vehicle price includes the battery and whether the charger or installation work is extra. Put compulsory costs in the comparison before considering optional accessories. Keep recurring battery-rental payments separate from the delivery-day amount. For a worksheet you can use across brands, see our full EV buying-cost guide.
Questions to resolve before paying
Ask which notification the dealer is applying, which authority will register the vehicle and what happens if the final assessment differs from the quote. Get the payment, cancellation and refund terms in writing. Save the invoice, quotation and registration receipt together so that the amounts can be checked later. If a charge is unclear, resolve it before signing rather than treating an unexplained difference as a guaranteed refund.
FAQs
Does the exemption make the whole on-road price tax-free?
No. Read each cost separately; a motor vehicle tax concession does not establish that insurance, accessories or every registration-related charge disappears.
Is this the same as receiving a purchase subsidy?
No. Check the tax assessment and any purchase-incentive application separately.
How should I compare dealer quotations?
Use the same variant, battery ownership basis and cost categories, and request written explanations for combined or unclear charges.
