September 2026 EV sales are attracting substantial attention on YouTube. EV Gyan’s 1 October video about record sales showed 236,372 views when checked on 6 October. The published description covers electric cars, scooters and motorcycles. That makes it a useful starting point for the discussion, but a record-sales headline still needs a clear definition of the numbers behind it.
A sales number needs a category and a source
An electric-car total cannot be labelled as all EV sales. Scooters, motorcycles, three-wheelers and commercial vehicles may be counted separately. Similarly, registrations, manufacturer dispatches, bookings and cumulative deliveries describe different events. Combining them can create an impressive total that has no consistent meaning.
Before sharing a ranking, record the month, geography, vehicle classes, fuel definition, reporting cut-off and source. If a source includes a limited set of registration offices, that coverage belongs beside the number. A later data refresh can change a provisional table without changing the underlying reporting method.
What Mahindra’s official September release confirms
Mahindra’s 1 October manufacturer release reports 114,874 total vehicles including exports, and 64,092 domestic utility vehicles. It also announces a cumulative milestone of one lakh Electric Origin SUV billings since launch. The UV total includes its electric subsidiary, but neither the total-vehicle figure nor the full UV figure is an electric-car-only monthly count. The cumulative milestone is not September EV sales.
Why this article does not repeat an unverified league table
We have not reconciled the video’s numerical rankings against a saved September registration export. The official Parivahan analytics portal is the appropriate starting point for registration-based checks, but a portal link alone does not validate a particular chart. Until the matching extract is available, this article does not declare a national category winner or independently confirm an all-time record.
This distinction is useful for buyers as well as readers. A popular model may indicate a large owner community, but volume alone cannot tell you whether its local service centre is responsive, whether a charger suits your parking space, or whether a particular variant fits your daily route.
Three checks before using sales popularity to choose an EV
First, compare the exact models rather than brand totals: a manufacturer can sell several EVs with different strengths. Second, speak to owners served by your local workshop. Third, compare the complete ownership arrangement, including battery rental where applicable. An entry price that excludes the battery cannot be treated as equivalent to a battery-inclusive purchase.

Does Mahindra’s one-lakh milestone mean one lakh EVs sold in September?
No. Its release describes cumulative billings since launch.
Does a best-selling EV automatically make the best purchase?
No. Verify your route, charging access, variant and local service support.
